Experience
I'm a life-long lover and learner of the Spanish language and Latin American culture. I've been taking Spanish classes since 7th grade and have spent time abroad to enhance my language skills and learn more about the culture and people of Latin America. While I was attending Ohio State, I spent a summer abroad in Guanajuato, Mexico living with a host family and studying at the beautiful University of Guanajuato. During my graduate studies at Ohio University, I spent several months in Nicaragua with a non-profit organization that seeks to help members of a local sugarcane community that suffer greatly from chronic kidney disease. For my thesis project, I interviewed the community members regarding their working, living and health conditions. My research was used to help the organization advance their human rights campaign. Apart from research, I also volunteered in the community, teaching elementary school children English and running the bi-weekly art and sports clubs. Through theses amazing travel experiences, along with shorter trips to the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, I've had the opportunity to enhance my Spanish language skills and appreciate the diversity and beauty of each place I visit. I love sharing my experiences along with my practical knowledge of Spanish and my goal with tutoring is to help others not only improve their Spanish but to see the importance of learning this language and how fun and rewarding it can be!
